Bringing the show gardens, the jewel in Bloom’s crown, to life

Kerrie Gardiner, Bloom’s Show Garden Manager
Every year, we at Bloom aim to exhibit the best of horticulture and design in the form of our wonderful show gardens. This year’s show is no exception. The work that goes into these gardens is a testament to our designers’ commitment to their profession and the results are spectacular. For a long weekend in June, the months of planning come to a head and these beautiful gardens are brought to life. The festival with its plethora of exhibits and attractions transform the Phoenix Park into the vibrant and colourful hotspot that we all know as BLOOM!

The designers themselves are striving for perfection in the hope of earning an award. They must work to very strict criteria in the design and build of their gardens. Each of the show gardens are subject to a rigorous judging process involving assessment of:

Meeting of the Design Brief – Realisation of brief and feasibility as per client, location or intended use
Overall Impression/Design – including impact, originality, balance and scale
Construction – quality, finish and special features
Planting – design, colour & texture, association & relevance and use of locally-sourced plant material
As well as the show gardens, we are also proud to present our new Doorstep Feature (Entrance 1) and the return of our Postcard Gardens which have doubled in numbers from last year. The Postcard Gardens are put together by various community groups and organisations and are well worth a visit.
